Ningal App Generator compared to the other ways of getting a desktop app
Ningal App Generator turns a description written in plain language into a desktop application you download and run: a .exe for Windows or a binary for Linux, with no development environment, no compilation and no installer.
Most tools that write software with AI give you either a web app that lives on someone else's servers, or source code you still have to build yourself. That is the real difference, and it is what this page is about.
The alternatives, side by side
| Approach | What you end up with | Where it runs | Where the data lives | What it asks of you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Ningal App Generator | A desktop program: .exe or Linux binary | On the computer, offline | On that computer, or in a shared folder on your network | A description of what the app should do |
AI web app builders Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0 | A web app hosted online | In a browser, on their servers | On the vendor’s cloud | Internet and an account to use the app |
AI coding assistants Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot | Source code | Wherever you manage to build and package it | Wherever you build it to | A development environment, a toolchain and the skills to use both |
No-code builders Bubble, Glide, FlutterFlow, AppSheet | A web or mobile app | In a browser or on a phone | On the vendor’s cloud | Learning their editor; the app stops if you stop paying |
Hiring a developer Freelancer or agency | Anything you can pay for | Anywhere | Wherever it is built to | Weeks of calendar time and a four-figure budget |
Spreadsheets and macros Excel, Access | A file other people must open in the same program | In Excel or Access | In the file | The same software on every machine, plus macro permissions |
When each one is the better choice

Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot
Choose it when: You are a developer, or you want to own and keep evolving the code.
No-code builders
Bubble, Glide, FlutterFlow, AppSheet
Choose it when: You need a mobile app, or access from anywhere over the internet.
Hiring a developer
Freelancer or agency

Spreadsheets and macros
Excel, Access
Choose it when: The job really is a table of numbers and only you use it.
Ningal App Generator
This site
Choose it when: the program has to run on a Windows or Linux computer, work with local files and data, keep working without internet, and be something you can hand to someone else as a folder they double-click.
What Ningal actually gives you
- What you download
- A ZIP with a Windows .exe or a Linux binary, plus the files it needs
- Windows publisher
- Windows apps made on a paid plan are signed with a Windows publisher certificate.
- Installation
- None. Extract the folder anywhere, including a USB stick, and double-click
- Where the data lives
- On the computer that runs the app, or in a shared folder of your office network: a SQLite database and files
- Several users
- Yes, on the same office network, if you ask for it when you describe the app: put the app folder in a shared folder (not OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive) and everyone opens the same program
- Internet
- Not needed, except for features that are online by nature (AI, web services, email)
- Built in
- Local database, file access, PDF, Word and Excel output, printing, FFmpeg for video, charts, barcodes and QR codes
- Best suited for
- Everyday tools and utilities: inventory, invoicing, converters, trackers, document and file tools, small dashboards
- AI inside the app
- Optional. The app uses the end user’s own Google Gemini key, stored in the OS keyring
- Changes
- Describe them in plain language and download the new version
- Platforms
- Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and Linux. No macOS, no mobile
- Price
- A free plan, and paid plans from €4.99/month plus VAT, with a 14-day refund policy
- If you stop paying
- The apps you downloaded keep working: they run on your computer and nothing checks a licence
Questions people ask before choosing
Do I get the source code?
No, you only get a working program, because Ningal App Generator is built around describing changes in plain language rather than editing code by hand.
Can I sell or give away the apps I create?
Yes. The apps are yours and they are portable: you copy the folder to another computer and it runs, with no installer and no account.
How is this different from asking ChatGPT or Claude for code?
A chat assistant gives you source code, and turning that into a program someone can double-click means installing a toolchain, building and packaging it. Ningal does the packaging and hands you the executable.
How good is the result?
It is written by an AI model from your description, so it is very good at the usual desktop jobs (forms, lists, local databases, documents, files) and it is not a substitute for a developer on complex or critical software. You can check a browser preview before downloading it (a simulation: file access, printing and other native features only work in the downloaded app), and keep asking for changes.
